I have the You Version app on my phone, so I read these verses in 5 or 6 different translations. Here’s the CEB:

“Don’t be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in me. My Father’s house has room to spare. If that weren’t the case, would I have told you that I’m going to prepare a place for you? When I go to prepare a place for you, I will return and take you to be with me so that where I am you will be too. You know the way to the place I’m going.”

Reflection Questions:

Jesus’ friends were upset that they were going to be physically separated from him- he had been talking about leaving in the previous chapter. They want to be where he is. Do I?

What does trust involve for these followers? (Things are about to get really bad- Jesus will be arrested and killed)

What does trusting God look like in my life today?

Is Jesus talking about a literal place where he and his Father and these followers (and future followers) get to live together? What do you think? How is this reassuring?
